Bushra Ali – A talent too good to ignore!

Right arm over the wicket, the bowler passes the umpire delivers a well flighted delivery with a loop that drifts gently, pitches and hurries in, the batsman plays all over the delivery – RESULT – Clean bowled!! One phrase that quickly passed my mind on seeing the dismissal was “float like a butterfly sting like a bee.” A quote made famous by Mohammed Ali (boxer), ALI for those who love him. Welcome to the crease BUSHRA ALI who proudly carries the same last name “ALI” and delivers the punch with equal ferocity while at the crease bowling or batting – kindly join me in welcoming – a talent too good to ignore!

Born to a middle class family in Karachi, Pakistan to Mohammad Ali and Khursheed Bano, Bushra, 23, had much of her education in Karachi, Pakistan. Karachi, a city that has produced many a cricketing legend like Hanif Mohammed and stars like Javed Miandad, Mushtaq Mohammed, Shahid Afridi, Saeed Anwar, and Rashid Latif, the list simply goes on and on.

Karachi first witnessed the Test debut of an all-time great SACHIN TENDULKAR in 1989, while Bushra was only three years old. Having started to play cricket at the tender age of five, thanks to her brothers and cousins who coached her; Bushra took a liking for sports and has many achievements to her credit. Captaining her School and College Cricket team, Bushra took to cricket seriously. Her aspirations in the academic field brought her to the USA in 2004, where she pursued her academic ambitions. Hasley Hall, the most revered Minnesotan baseball commentator never would have thought that his now famous phrase “HOLY COW” would ever be used to pen an article on the glorious game of cricket. Moreover he never would have dreamt that his home state someday will play host to a big cricketing event; USACA’s Western Conference Championship.
